The man looks at him, long and assessing, then laughs. It's not a polite sound--scornful, above anything else--but it seems to be genuinely amused.

"Hardly," he says. "You would simply fall to ruin and fade away. It would be too much trouble for too little reward."

He snaps his fingers, which opens a portal of some sort.

"If you wish," he says, "then you may take your leap of faith and step through."
