But the board games are just that! Normal board games, the kind of stuff that might be pulled out on a family game night. It looks like a few of them were in-progress, like whoever was playing might come back at any moment.

He has about a minute to sit there, waiting, before a voice says behind him, boisterously cheerful:

"Wahahaha! You're a little bit lost, woof! What are you doing here, huh? Are you hungry?"

[JUMPS slightly, turning around to face them]

Wha--sorry, I was just looking for someone who might know what's what, y'know?

It's this foxy(?) cat(?) lady. She grins at him, all teeth and good cheer.

"Wohoho! Well, you've found the right person, woof! This Cat'll point you in the right direction, no sweat! Though there was something else I was supposed to remember... huh..."

[stares not so respectfully]

--oh! Uh, yeah, that'd be. Helpful. Did I interrupt somethin'?

"Nah! I was just supposed to remember, uh..."

There's a long pause of hemming and hawing as she tries to decides, and then she perks up, paffing one paw into the other.

"Dinner! You want anything? This cat'll provide!"

Are you really a cat. . .? [but u know what. sure. why not.]

Yeah, I could use a bite to eat. We can talk over a meal!

"Of course I'm a cat! A cat's always a cat and there's all there is to it, woof! Anything you request, I can whip it up! But, uh..."

Now she pauses again, scrunching her face up. "There was something else, I think..."

Never met a cat that said woof, but hey, never met a talking cat before, so what do I know?

What were you doin' before you saw me? Maybe that'll help you remember.

"'Course cats say woof! 'Cause I'm a cat, and that's what I say, woof!" She seems particularly insistent on this, for some reason? Huh.

"But as for that, what was I doing, what was I doing... napping? No, no, I was doing... hmmmmmmm... ah!" Another paw in paw punch. "I was checkin' on Master's condition!"

[gonna let her have that]

Yeah? Who's Master? We can check on 'em together!

"Master's Master, woof! There's no way you'd be here if you didn't know her!" She seems confident about this. "If you weren't a friend of hers, I'd have to kill you on the spot."

[wheeze]

Good to know. . .[then, perks up]

Wait, so, you mean Ritsuka! Is she here somewhere? Can you take me to her--wait, who the heck are you, anyway?

"I'm Cat, of course," she says. "Tamamo Cat, at your service, woof! But not over Master's service, nope. I'm a loyal cat, through and through! Even though I dunno what the heck's going on. Master's just suddenly unreachable. Everyone's freaking out! Gyahahahaha!"

[pounds his chest!!]

Loyalty's a real damn good trait! I'm Kaito Momota, Luminary of the Stars! I'm pretty important, but not as important as finding Ritsuka right now. See, that's why I'm here! She's been missing and there's some--weird monster person using her body. Freaky shit, y'know?

"Ohhhh, that guy, yup." Cat seems more amused than worried about it. "Gotta tell you, no one was happy when he moved in, woof! He's not one of us, but then he just came swanning in like, 'this is mine, and this is mine, and this is mine.' Like a dog peeing on things, wahaha! But he's been okay as roommates go. Just made his own whole space and everything."

Yeah? Do you know where his room is?

Cat scrunches up her face, deep in thought... then shrugs.

"Somewhere? You probably gotta go through that pit to get to it. Maybe? Haha, I forget."

What pit? And c'mon, let's get some food! You need calories for brain power!

"Wahahaha! Coming right up!"

She bounds to the kitchen area. It's possible she completely didn't hear or ignored his first question.

Wha--hey, Tamtam! Wait up!

It sure is a kitchen, the sort of thing that'd make any professional chef weep with envy. There are some pots already bubbling away that smell of curry, but Cat is busy pulling down a cutting board, a massive knife, and some onions. She's humming to herself some silly little lullaby, and she appears to have forgotten about anything but the work immediately in front of her.

Man this smells amazing--but you don't gotta cook me something from scratch! Where's the fridge? I'll just grab a snack and keep looking for Ritsuka. You wanna know where she is too, right?
