But if he wanders into the kitchen area, he will find this man fussing over a bubbling pot. It smells delicious.

He straightens, turns, and then gives Des a vaguely befuddled look. "--Hello? It's a little early for dinner."

Oh, I won't be eating. I'm actually wondering . . . if you've seen a ring anywhere.

"A ring?" He pauses, and then his eyes narrow slightly. "...Why would you be looking for that?"

"Help--" He pauses, and then he nods a little, though he looks vaguely pained, like maybe there's a headache pinched between his brows. "Ah. That's fair. We've been locked out of that, for the moment."

"Normally, we're not," he says. "Master's room isn't generally off-limits to anyone. But, you know..." He grimaces for a moment, silent, then goes on, "We're under some temporary management changes. So it's really only there that we can't reach. The rest is pretty open."

Could you tell me where her room is? I suppose that's where a girl might hide something.

"The King of Mages," the man says, a little bit sour in his agreement. "No one's really happy about him either, trust me. But if you go that way--" he points, "and take the stairs up, you'll find it."

A pause, and then, "I probably don't have to tell you, but be gentle in there, okay? Just try not to break anything."
