[ There is a beach, and there is a man standing on it, facing the ocean.

And there is a girl, barefoot on the sand (barefoot? how? she remembers this moment, and she'd had her boots; she'd been shaking and terrified, but at least she had been fully dressed and armored in that), who finds herself walking towards him. There's an odd, buzzing moment of cognizant dissonance--she hadn't been here at all, she thinks, and now she's here--when she realizes: Ah, I'm dreaming.

Once she has that realization, the rest slots itself back into place relatively quickly. The beach is that unnamed, distant one in lost Atlantis, she is Fujimaru Ritsuka, and the man in front of her is...

Well. When it had happened, she'd had her strong suspicions of who it might be, with that particular body coupled with those eyes, though neither she nor Mash had spoken their thoughts aloud. They'd just known it wasn't him.

But in a dream? Because this is surely just her own wistful brain conjuring up impossibilities, right? This can't be anything like a shared dream with a Servant, right? Solomon had never been one of hers, no matter how close they'd been.

And since it's a dream, it feels safe for her to wander closer, and to say: ]

[ There's no easy mending for this, though.

As far as missions go, it's all bog standard to start with: a blip on the sensors, a minute Singularity that is taking form under the blanket of the bleached texture overlaying the world and could, if allowed to fester, cause greater trouble down the line.

"It might just be the ripple effect of clearing out the British Lostbelt," Da Vinci tells Ritsuka, as she flicks through the notes on her tablet. The problem area is actually more in what would be modern-day Germany rather than the British Isles, but it's the current working theory. That's hardly the part that's important, in the end--more concerning is the fact that every time Chaldea tries to scan for more information on the time period, the area, and any unnaturally high magical signatures, the Singularity just seems to... blip briefly. It vanishes entirely for a short time, no longer than eight hours, and then reappears, slightly stronger and more established than before.

"Try not to get yourself caught in one of those blinks," Da Vinci adds, entirely too cheerful. "We don't actually know what it'll do to you if you are!"

The other odd thing is that when the database is checked for Servants who have the right Rayshift compatibility to go with Ritsuka, two names come up: Merlin, and Oberon. Even as far as strained situations go, only having two to start with sits uneasily with her--

--haha, did you really think there'd be two? Merlin is nowhere to be found in Chaldea for the moment, and in the privacy of her own mind, Ritsuka promises herself that if he is somehow involved in this Singularity, she WILL give herself permission to deck him just once.

So in the end, it ends on this: Ritsuka wandering through an idyllic field at early dusk, when the light has already halfway faded out of the sky. She can't see any lights in the distance, and it's silent except for her footsteps and the song of insects; whenever this is, it's definitely not anywhere in the modern era. To her left is a dense forest, the trees tangled here and there with blooming wild roses. It's warm shading into hot, a summery warmth that lingers even after the sun has set. All and all, this is the kind of setting that would make for a lovely vacation for someone.

After about fifteen minutes of walking in thoughtful silence, she turns to her companion, and she says: ]

I'm pretty sure we've passed that yellow rose bush like three times already. Do you think we're lost, or is someone trying to keep us here?

30 SECOND SUMMARY

A girl who accidentally got involved in the effort to preserve humanity from outside (magical) threats. Despite having little to no magical talent herself, she winds up the "Master" to a whole host of magically-summoned entities known as "Servants," most of whom are notable figures from both mythology and history. Easygoing with a sarcastic sense of humor, good-natured about her faults, and more inclined to trust in her heart and instincts over her head. She might tease you, but she would in fact die for you... though she'd rather not. She'd much rather everyone get to live, including herself.

At her current canonpoint, Ritsuka is neck-deep in another effort to save her own world, going up against people who would have once been her comrades and seniors and are now her enemies. The team that would have once been the elite squad of the Chaldea Organization have allied themselves with an alien god who seeks to rewrite the entirety of human history, and each member of that team has been tasked with a different alternate history (a "Lostbelt") to nurture and strengthen, in the hopes that it will overcome the Pan-Human History that Ritsuka represents. To wipe out a Lostbelt means destroying everything of it, including the lives within it, and Ritsuka is starting to struggle with the weight of that... but she's keeping on keeping on, for now.

APPERANCE/NOTEABLE FEATURES

Ritsuka is on the short side (~158cm/5'2") with a noodley runner's build, with shoulder-length red hair and gold eyes. She usually wears her hair in a side ponytail, and has this symbol on the back of her right hand, which she makes no real effort to hide.

It should be noted, without any sort of glamor magic, she has some generally intense scarring; while the worst of it is on her torso, there's some that is still visible on her arms and legs. Overall, she can be best summarized as "cleans up cute, pretty in a very plain and ordinary way."

[ Let's be honest--there's not really a lot of spare time in this whole "saving the Human Order from its doom" business. The big holidays carve themselves space (which Ritsuka has privately theorized might be because of how global both Valentine's Day and Christmas have become), but the smaller ones? The holidays she grew up observing? Those tend to be hit or miss. Even summer vacations with Chaldea have never felt so much like vacations as excuses for something else to happen.

Well, okay that's how all the holidays have been so far, but this! This!!

Ritsuka wanders into the dining hall a bit late for breakfast--it's weird enough that people have let her sleep in for once--and takes a moment to look around. Is it just her, or does it seem a bit... sparse, today? Even if it's later in the morning, there's usually more people hanging out in the dining area at this time.

There is Shuten at least, and Ritsuka heads in her direction after a moment, confused but not (yet) alarmed. ]

[ Summer!

Somehow, time continues to progress onward, and now it's another summer, another wacky situation they've landed themselves in. They've followed signs of what might be a budding Singularity (and how unfair is that, Ritsuka had complained in the privacy of her own mind, that there are still potential Singularities to resolve with everything else going on as well?!) to a beautiful deserted island. There are definite remnants of a society here: Chaldea's refugees have set up base in a village, weather-worn and old, but still functional and surprisingly comfortable. They aren't sure yet what is the actual cause of the Singularity, though Ritsuka has her suspicions about that they might have to do with the active volcano that lies in the dead center of the island...

Well, that's something to worry about later. For now, it's the usual summer madness: picking up what materials they can farm from the land and its native wildlife, a growing group of Servants strutting their new summer bathing suits, and a series of hijinks that, once upon a time, Ritsuka would have written off as too ridiculous to ever happen in real life.

Even if she knows better by this point, there's still the fact that she'd been at the beach with Mash, wading into the shallows with the idle desire to find seashells -- ordinary seashells! the kind that would make nice souvenirs and nothing more! -- when the summer squall had come rolling in. She's no stranger to abrupt changes in the weather, but it still takes her by surprise, the way that the clear blue sky goes dark in a heartbeat, and the rain comes sheeting down. Without thinking about it, she grabs Mash's hand and bolts for the little shack they'd passed earlier in the afternoon. They're both soaked by the time they make it inside, but at least the roof is intact. It'll provide reasonable shelter for the time being.

Ritsuka peers out through one of the windows, flipping her dripping bangs out of her eyes. Despite the general warmth of the afternoon, she's shivering a little. ]

[ So what kind of jamjar setup is this? Who knows for sure, but the basics are still the same: you can't leave freely, there's a library and places to eat, there's a mix of people who've gone native and people who're doing everything in their power to get out, and there's a lot of random mingling.

And Ritsuka, for one, has chosen to throw herself into those mingles, because otherwise she's going to go nuts with worry about how things are going on back home.

Which means today, she has chosen to trail, like a duckling, after a particularly dour looking guy who's been lugging supplies around all day. She hasn't said anything yet, but the weight of Potential Conversation is there. Looming. Waiting.
